In 2015, I co-founded Babelle Theatre with writer James Gordon King. I was the co-artistic director of this small independent theatre company based in Vancouver, BC for 8 years. I co-created, directed and produced four original new plays: This, Here; All My Friends Are Animals; Movements No. 1&2 and Rivulets: 3 Short Plays About A Flood.

THIS, HERE

The depths plumbed by these actors, for these characters, is astounding. It was just gut-rippingly beautiful. [...] Playwright James Gordon King and director Marie Farsi lead an exemplary creative team that delivers magic.

A play about striving, failing and the people who support us.

This, Here asks big questions about what it means to live, whether or not we can be saved by work, and how we carry our loved ones through hard times.

... under the direction of Marie Farsi for Babelle Theatre, the performances are terrific.

MOVEMENTS No. 1&2

It’s fantastic because what Babelle Theatre chooses not to do is exactly what makes it so compelling. It encourages you to give up what you take for granted about theatre, so that you may actually experience it.

MOVEMENTS No. 1&2 is a dream-like exploration into the personal and collective ideas of revolution: a fissure is formed in an avant-garde political movement over the decision whether or not to appeal to a broader public.

Shorts can be a risky endeavour as there is little time to fully develop characters and plot, but there is a somber reality to each of the three presented as part of Rivulets. As Vancouver continues through one of its driest summers on record, that irony is not lost.
